The Old Town Hall was awarded to Community Arts Foundation on April 25. The vote was 2 to 1 with Jim Delisle and Heather Billings for and Sam Alpert opposing. Jim Delisle stepped down as of the Annual Town Meeting and was replaced by Missy Banks. When the Select Board reconvened on May 16, the board was going to take action based on a filling (not a decision) with the Inspector Generals office to reverse the award. A very passionate group of concerned citizens were there to oppose this action and it was tabled. We have a fight ahead to make sure that we are fairly represented in the proceedings and that we are able to continue bringing a Performing Arts center to the Community for all to use. The protection of the green space is also of upmost importance. Community Arts Foundation is a local proposal headed by Joe Serio, Bill Aubuchon, David Mckeehan and Thomas Arsenault are also on the team. One of the past proposal would eliminate the auditorium and we would lose our history and performance space forever. This is a historic building where Fredrick Douglas spoke in the mid 1800's. Community Arts Foundation would renovate the building and make the auditorium available for town and civic group use and be a meeting hall, performance and cultural space as the building was intended.
